The Suction Line P-Trap is a critical but often overlooked component in split-system air conditioning and commercial refrigeration. Its primary function is "Oil Management." In systems where the evaporator is located below the compressor, gravity prevents the refrigerant oil from naturally returning to the compressor. Without a P-Trap, the oil can pool in the suction line, leading to "Oil Starvation" at the compressor and eventual mechanical failure.
